Birmingham shed its image as England's second city today, 13th March, after stealing the crown of Cleanest Place in Britain from the City of London.

The British Cleaning Council (BCC) welcomes Kärcher UK on board as its Headline Sponsor for the Clean Britain Awards, 2007. The competition, which has replaced ‘Britain's Cleanest City,' is firmly underway and is open to city, town and district councils from all over the UK.

Public Backs ‘Own Your Streets Day’

Manchester City Council's 100 day clean-up is well under way at the moment demonstrating the Council's commitment to a clean and green environment. This included the successful ‘Own Your Streets Day' on Monday 24th April, where street sweepers downed tools for the day - in an attempt to get the public to use a bin.

The BCC is delighted to announce the launch of the new ‘Clean Britain Awards, 2007'. From 1st March 2006 the Council is accepting entries from UK cities, towns and districts to battle it out to become the cleanest place in Britain. There will be winners from all three categories plus one overall winner.

City of London Reclaims Clean Title

The City of London* has been re-crowned Britain's Cleanest City (since winning in 2001) despite having virtually no litter bins in the streets.

The City beat off stiff challenges from Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Ely, Manchester,Truro and Westminster - to win the award.

HIGH STANDARDS EARN SPECIAL AWARDS

This year's Special Awards, designed to reward excellence where cities have demonstrated particularly high standards in promoting municipal cleanliness, went to the City of London, the 2001 title-holders, Bristol and Truro.

Local Authority dignitaries (of the Cleanest City finalists) have been invited to attend the grand finale of Britain's Cleanest City on Tuesday 1st March 2005, at the NEC, Birmingham. The high profile event will include key figures from the cleaning industry plus Local Authority delegates.

BRITAIN'S CLEANEST CITY 2005 GETS A KICK START!

The British Cleaning Council's 'Why Are Clean Cities Important?' conference held at the Regency Hotel, Solihull, on Thursday 20th May turned out to be a storming success. Chaired by the BCC's Chairman, Paul Pearce, the day saw over half of the UK's cities listen to a wealth of speakers, on all aspects of the urban cleanliness.

GO! The official launch pad for Britain's Cleanest City, 2005, took place at the BCC's 'Why Are Clean Cities Important?' conference. At this seminar Local Authorities shared ideas on cleanliness, as well as the opportunity to listen to the judging criteria for the Cleanest City competition.

CLEANEST CITY TITLE GOES TO WESTMINSTER

Bristol, Truro and City of London Earn Special Awards for Excellence; Extra Award for Birmingham's Waterside

The City of Westminster has just been named as 'Britain's Cleanest City' 2003.
