GO! The official launch pad for Britain's Cleanest City, 2005, took place at the BCC's 'Why Are Clean Cities Important?' conference. At this seminar Local Authorities shared ideas on cleanliness, as well as the opportunity to listen to the judging criteria for the Cleanest City competition.
This year's theme posed the vital question of 'Why are Clean Cities Important?' dealing with issues of litter and illegal waste, which can unfortunately have a diverse effect on both trade and tourism in our cities. The event featured a prestigious line-up of speakers to deal with this vital issue, reflecting the growing status of both the seminar and the competition.
One of the day's highlights was a presentation by Alan Cook of Westminster City Council, winner of the coveted 'Cleanest City 2003', who revealed their secrets on how they achieved the award.
The day's programme also included speeches from Simon Chapman of the Neighbourhood Warden's Team; British Cleaning Council's panel of judges; key note speakers from central and local Government.
