The British Cleaning Council is delighted to hear that this week, London will be swooped on by a crack team ... dedicated to scrubbing the city of graffiti.
And the drive is all part of the Capital Standards programme which brings together 28 London Boroughs, the Environment Agency and the Mayor of London, amongst others.
The BCC, and many of its members, are only too aware of the problems graffiti creates for communities and those granted with the tough task to remove it.
Being the organisers of the Clean Britain Awards, BCC knows that many town and city centres are a big target for graffiti especially around train stations and those areas that are difficult to reach, making it all the more challenging for graffiti writers.
In fact some of the finalists in this year's awards will be benefiting from this clamp-down activity - City of London, Lewisham and Westminster - which only reflects just how committed they are to sprucing up their areas for residents and visitors alike.
Mark Pinnock from Capital Standards said: "Graffiti is a crime and costs Local Authorities thousands of pounds each year. It is not just young people that commit the crime but we must try to engage with all who are responsible. Education and good enforcement is the key."
Activities across the week include enforcement officers working with the police to catch offenders and anti-graffiti paint applied to shops and businesses.
